At first glance, it may seem like the artists in this show don't have much in common (well, other than 'going big or going home’ that is), but when you look a little closer there are actually quite a few similarities that connect them. From vivid color palettes and dizzying patterns, to bizarre narratives and intricate details... and, of course the fact all of five of these artists step up to the canvas with a fearless approach to art making. “Big Picture, Baby” will be bringing larger than life portraits, bold paint strokes, and even a few big laughs to Skye Gallery this winter.
The Fifth Kingdom is all abotu the patterns of our world. Join us this Saturday morning for a hike to learn about Aspen native plants! Mimosas, coffee, snacks and plant knowledge will be served. Not to be missed!

A conversation between Artist Jody Guralnick and Environmentalist George Frampton.
George Frampton was the Chairman of the Council on Environmental Quality. In this capacity, he served as the senior environmental policy advisor to President Clinton and Vice President Gore. He has also been Assistant Secretary of the Interior for Fish, Wildlife and Parks and the president of The Wilderness Society. He is the founder of the Partnership for Responsible Growth, which seeks to build public support for carbon pricing as the optimal national climate change strategy. From the Partnership’s website:
Climate change is the challenge of our time. Scientists agree that carbon emissions are a major cause of rising temperatures, severe weather, and drought. The Pentagon considers climate change’s impact to be a “threat multiplier.” Leaders of major financial institutions and leading companies recognize it is time for action. Many are taking steps to reduce or eliminate carbon in their operations. We can either rise to the challenge by acting now or accept that inaction will only lead to further decline of our quality of life, our prosperity, our national security, and our children’s future.
Jody’s work, The Fifth Kingdom is currently in the Skye Gallery. The Fifth Kingdom is the kingdom of Fungi, the kingdom of the great hidden labyrinths of growth and decay that support all life. Guralnick observes patterns in nature and seeks to replicate the universal order and form of that growth.
“I am interested in the symbiosis of the forest, the connecting and dismantling that goes on in equal parts. We can look at human vascular systems, or brain slices, or the view from an airplane window and see over and over again systems of networks working in partnership. We are attracted to these patterns because they are a part of us. I am painting a vision of pattern and connection.”
This is a conversation on an increasingly existential topic. Please come and participate.

The Bird’s Nest Gallery proudly presents their fourth exhibition of the season: “Rise” an all-female show about empowering women, honoring the feminine, believing in our wise intuition and knowing our strong inner being. Based on the belief that communal encouragement is essential to support one another in boldly creating ourselves, this agitated times call for unity, and we believe there is no stronger way of conveying this message than through meaningful works of art.
For this reason, we have gathered a strong group of women artists to rise above the Roaring Fork community and raise their voices. Women's Art League-Vagina China-, Laina Sydney, Javiera Estrada, Noelle K. Miller, Cassandra Holden, Gemma Danielle, Chelsea Leigh Jade, Yez Tutic, Fatima Curiel, Alexis Ahrling, Cassandra Holden, Elyssa Edgerly, Maia Chozas, Agustina Mistretta and Skye Weinglass will present their works in resonance with the exhibition topic. Covering painting, sculpture, photography, mixed media and collage, the selected pieces call for inner connection with the fierce female side that inhabits in us all, mother nature ruling within her passionate presence.
Moreover, we joined forces with Response, a local non-profit initiative whose mission is to support, educate and empower survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault. We will donate 10% of our exhibition sales profits to support this important cause and help our community spread consciousness about Response’s activities and their community reachout.

The "Dreamscapes" show inaugurates The Bird’s Nest Winter Season new location. This collection features paintings by five prominent Western artists: Claire Ray, Ryan B. Curtis, Javiera Estrada, Hans Walor, Sarah Petkus and Miles Toland. The works presented spin around transcendence and how meditational states of mind can affect our perception of the world, and the human ability to communicate with the source forces that live beyond our regular understanding. The contemplation of this group of works- masterfully carried out with a creative approach to contemporary fine arts classics like painting and photography- takes the viewer away from daily mundane concerns allowing the possibility of inhabiting the dreamscapes present in the artists’ imagery.
